Melnichuk S. - The Concept "Writer's Fate" in Russian Language Cognition (Based on Associative Experiment Data) pp. 1-7

DOI:
10.7256/2454-0749.2017.3.23547

Abstract: This article is an attempt to present the concept of "writer’s fate" which has not yet been described in the scientific papers. The analysis is conducted on the base of associative experiment data which shows that there are a huge number of different respondents' verbal reactions to the stimulus ("writer's fate"). The results of associative experiment show that writer's fate is characterised as tragic, with loneliness and misunderstanding being its main features in native Russian speakers comprehension. Special emphasis is made on the lexeme "a writer" which is also proved to be a linguo-cultural concept due to its evaluative component. A writer is believed to be a true talented master in Russian language cognition who doesn't think about his glory but devotes his life to his work.

Pyrkov I.V. - Types of Communication Chains Used by Anton Chekhov in His Short Story 'The House with the Mezzanine' pp. 8-18

DOI:
10.7256/2454-0749.2017.3.23191

Abstract: The article is devoted to the communication aspect of Chekhov's works. In his research Pyrkov tries to 'open up' the 'dialog windows' in Anton Chekhov's short story The House with the Mezzanine. The phenomenon of the mezzanine that acquires the status of an extended metaphor in Chekhov's creative writing is associated with the author's worldview evolving from newspaper light verses and satire to broad-scale generalizations when the writer still uses every opportunity to express his opinion regarding nettlesome issues of his time including overcoming social barriers in the first place. In his research Pyrkov views the image of mezzanine as an extended metaphor of the dying Russian manor house. In his research the author has used the method of close reading that allows to reveal the writer's humanistic ideas that play a conceptually important role in his dialog with the readers. These ideas are hidden behind the decorative illusory images of the story. The 'spot analysis' of the writer's speech also allows to verify the researcher's hypothesis about a special artistic role played by communication links used by Anton Chekhov in his prose. The main heroine of The House with the Mezzanine is also interpreted in a new light as a personality type that inevitably has to leave the forefront of Russian history and literature and break the communication chain of the time. The personality of the mother of the Volchaninov sisters is also given a new interpretation as a personality type that had exhausted her role in the communication with that century.

Krotova D.V. - The Principles of Modeling Autobiographical Myth in P. Krusanov’s Works pp. 19-26

DOI:
10.7256/2454-0749.2017.3.23656

Abstract: The article is devoted to P. Krusanov’s autobiographical myth. The author of the article has discussed the principles of designing an autobiographical myth in articles, essays, interviews and fiction of this writer. She has also identified the basic elements of Krusanov’s autobiographical mythology such as ironic self-presentation, the idea of literature as a form of leisure, writing as entertainment, and a writer as a person prone to self-indulgence and idleness. Using hermeneutic, receptive and comparative methods the author of article analyses deep discrepancies between created myth and true Krusanov’s understanding of functions of literature and his own writing tasks. In fact, literature is perceived by Krusanov as the field of discussing the most important issues such as national identity, national destiny, past, present and future of our country. This range of problems is at the heart of the novels "Where the Crown Does Not Lie" (and, accordingly, "The Night Inside"), "Bom-Bom, or the Art to Cast Lots", and "Angel Bite". The novelty of the research is caused by the fact that the author defines and gives a description of Krusanov’s autobiographical myth. The researcher makes conclusions about the reasons for modeling an autobiographical myth by Krusanov such as aspiration to avoid didacticism, and specific perception of literature in modern society. Krusanov’s autobiographical myth allows the writer to combine the jocular form with an expression of deep reflection on human personality and its inner structure, the issues of time and memory, national character and the future of our country.

Semenova A. - Discreditation of Paganism in 'Vladimir' Poem by Mikhail Kheraskov pp. 27-40

DOI:
10.7256/2454-0749.2017.3.23776

Abstract: The paper under consideration examines discreditation of paganism in Kheraskov's poem 'Vladimir' as one of the least studied aspects of the epic poem by Mikhail Kheraskov. Kheraskov pays much attention to pagans who opposed to the adoption of Christianity in Russia. Their point of view and arguments against the new religion are important in the context of Vladimir's inner struggle, but the author discredits the pagans, casting doubt on their arguments. The poet accentuates the negative aspects of the cult, relying in general on the testimonies of historians, but thickening colors and speculating a number of details. It should be noted that fantastic elements in the poem are also linked with discrediting pagans. The forces of good and evil, the messengers of Heaven and hell interfere with the affairs of people, supporting Christians or pagans. Paganism in 'Vladimir' is associated with the devil worship, it is evidenced with the identification of Perun with the prince of the world. A comparison of the poem with historical sources makes it possible to reveal in which cases the poet more or less freely interprets the historical material or contributes fictional and fantastic elements to the purpose of emphasizing the priority of Christianity in relation to paganism. The novelty of the research is caused by the fact that there are very few researches devoted to the poem 'Vladimir' and many aspects of the poem are still left understudied including discreditaton of paganism the author of the article talks about. The author concludes that fictional details partly based on chronicles or contradictory thereto interwine with the historical basis of the poem creating the effect of the prism through which historical rather credible historical events are presented in a new light. The old belief is discredited and the author does not leave an opportunity to interpret the choice of the Kiev Knyaz as a destruction of original Russian culture and propagation of alien culture. On the contrary, christianization of Rus' saves the nation that happened to be at the edge of doom.

Kadnikova O., Bondareva E., Chistyakova G. - Lexical-Grammatical Aspect of Bipredicativeness in the German Language pp. 41-51

DOI:
10.7256/2454-0749.2017.3.23889

Abstract: This article describes the German bipredicative verbs research performed in line with the concepts of modern linguistics with its complex and integrative approach to the study of linguistic phenomena, when certain semantic phenomena (in this case – bisituationality) are taken as a basis, combining linguistic means both in their forms and in their semantic-syntactic functions. The subject of the description is constructions with bipredicative verbs (on the material of German verbs with separated first components). To study German bipredicative verbs the authors use some methods of analyzing dictionary definitions as well as the derivational analysis of derived units that helps to establish the relations of word-formation derivation between the derivative and its base. Thus, it becomes possible to describe three positions: the source of motivation and the means of its presentation in the structure of the de-rivative, the ways of its formal transformation, and the ways of forming a new meaning. Formulas of interpretation that are periphrases are defined on the basis of vocabulary defini-tions. Groups of bipredicative verbs which are combined into structural-semantic rows are distinguished on the basis of the proximity of lexicographical interpretations. Structural-semantic rows of bipredicative verbs are formed taking into account morphological, syntactic and semantic similarity of verbs. Another methods used in the research are the distribution analysis; some elements of the componential analysis method; the method of diatheses as a generalizing method for comparing language units of different levels; and the descriptive method and some elements of quantitative analysis for describing the research results. Scientific novelty is in the fact that the authors research the corpus of German verbs for the identi-fication of bipredicativeness for the first time. The results of the research can be used in the courses of teaching theoretical and practical grammars, lexicology and stylistics of the modern German language for students and postgraduate students, in carrying out special courses on the semantic syntax of the German language. They also can be used in the courses on the theory and practice of translation, since most bipredicative verbs are an idioethnic phenomenon of the German language and, in fact, a vivid example of “untranslatable in translation”. The experience of studying constructions with bipredicative verbs in German can also facilitate the analysis of bipredicative verbs in other languages.
Oladyshkina A., Kuznetsov K.V. - Ethnonyms in Austrian German pp. 52-57

DOI:
10.7256/2454-0749.2017.3.23904

Abstract: The object of the research is ethnonyms in contemporary German and Austrian German. The subject of the research is the semantic features of these ethnonyms. The authors of the article examine the main differences of lexical-semantic ethnonym groups German and Austrian German. At the same time, they analyse stylistically neutral ethnonyms as well as stylistically marked ethnic nicknames. The authors make important conclusions based on the analysis of the semantic deprivation grounds that define the most important typical feature of the national in the eyes of Austrian citizens. The ethnonym corpus created as a result of continuous sampling from the lexicographical source has been analyzed in terms of its semantic structure and the basis of the secondary nomination has been defined. The main conclusion of the research is that stylistically neutral ethnonyms usually have a very similar phonetic or orthographical word frame in different German dialects. However, ethnic nicknames such as the names of nations living in bordering countries are unique in Austrian German such as Hungarians, Czechs, italians, Germans and so are local names of citizens living in different federal districts of Austria.
Kuzembayeva G.A. - Actualization of the Concept of Nobility at the Phraseological Level pp. 58-64

DOI:
10.7256/2454-0749.2017.3.23921

Abstract: The process of conceptualization of the world is one of the promising directions in modern linguistics and its study objectifies a new understanding of words, linguo-cultural concepts. The identification of the specificity of the concept of nobility is of undoubted interest in the national consciousness of the British, age-old traditions and freedom, dignity and courage, the beauty and nobility of which determine the components of a truly English mentality. The material of the study is the English phrases, aphorisms and quotations selected by the method of continuous sampling from English phraseological dictionaries and dictionaries of quotations, which allow interpreting the studied concept. Appeal to the phraseological and aphoristic funds of the English language objectifies the reflection of the components of the concept in all kinds of texts of the English linguo-culture, except proverbs and sayings. Representation of the concept in the phraseological system of language determines its significance for English society and points to the duality of the notion of nobility.

Kletckaya S. - Conceptual Syncretism in Lyudmila Petrushevskaya's 'Wild Animal Tales' pp. 65-74

DOI:
10.7256/2454-0749.2017.3.23715

Abstract: The subject of the research is the language and linguo-poetic aspects of the conceptual syncretism in Lyudmila Petrushevskaya's 'Wild Animal Tales' that is viewed in relation to a specific model of the fairy tale 'world duality' typical for this book series. In her research article Kletskaya analyzes minifestations of the conceptual syncretism in a limited context as well as part of the book series in general. The researcher defines the role of metaphoric mechanisms in building the wold of Wild Animal Tales as well as conflicts, mutual exclusion or implicit meanings, their literary, cultural, linguistic and non-linguistic sources. The results of the research are based on observing patterns of the book series conceptual framework and analysis of the connection between components that take part in the formation of the conceptual syncretism. For the first time in the academic literature the author of the article views Wild Animal Tales in relation to the term 'syncretism' which creates a solid basis for understanding important aspects of the conceptual and formal organisation of the book series defining its specific and unique features. The conceptual syncretism of Wild Animal Tales arises from a specific concept of the world duality based on the mutual reflection of the human and animal worlds and become more complicated by involving language connotations, cultural stereotypes, actual realities of culture and everyday life and results of the metaphoric interpretation of reality phenomena. The conceptual syncretism in Wild Animal Tales is either expressed through semantics of a particular language unit in the context or focuses on other language units representing important components of the book series imaginary world (names of the characters, in the first place).

Zhukova T.A. - Structural-Semantic Peculiarities of Nonce Words in Dina Rubina's Novel 'Kordova's White Dove' pp. 75-85

DOI:
10.7256/2454-0749.2017.3.23114

Abstract: The article is devoted to nonce words that serve as expressive means in a literary text. The subject of the research is nonce words used in Dina Rubina's novel 'Kordova's White Dove'. The author of the article examines word-building patterns that form the basis of nonce words in the novel and analyzes the particular way how evaluativity of nonce words used by Dina Rubina is expressed. Despite the fact that there is a great number of researches devoted to various aspects of nonce words nowadays, it can be affirmed that a nonce word has never been described linguistically as a phenomenon reflecting dynamics of the language. Moreover, nonce words can be of interest to researchers as a conceptual category closely related to particularities of perceiving and understanding the message of a literary text. Structural-semantic analysis of nonce words was carried out using the comparative method because comparison with standard forms allows to define the conceptual content of the author's individual lexical units found in the text. The author has used the continuous sampling method to collect data. The scientific novelty of the research is caused by the fact that for the first time in the academic literature the author carries out a structural-semantic analysis of nonce words found in Dina Rubina's novel 'Kordova's White Dove' by the continuous sampling method. The main conclusion of the research is that in Dina Rubina's novel 'Kordova's White Dove' nonce words are an efficient expressive mean and convey particularities of the writer's individual style. The majority of nonce words do not only express a positive or negative attitude but also demonstrate specific features of the characters' speech. Most frequently the writer uses lexical units created as a combination of various usual word stems and affixes in accordance with, or slightly contradictory to, established word-building patterns.

Petrova N.V. - Multicomponent Transport Logistics Terms in the Modern English Language: Their Structure and Peculiarities of Translation into the Russian Language pp. 86-97

DOI:
10.7256/2454-0749.2017.3.23174

Abstract: The article reveals some peculiarities of multicomponent transport logistics terms in the modern English language from the point of view of their structure and translation into the Russian language. The carried out analysis is based on the material of the selection of multicomponent terminological units of the total amount of 500 units taken from texts, dictionaries and glossaries on logistics (in particular, transport logistics) in the Internet. The morphologic, morpho-syntactic and syntactic ways of term formation offered by S.V. Grinyov-Grinevich serve as a basis for the structural and word-formative analysis of terms. The author examines in detail some structural and word-formative peculiarities of two-, three-, four- and five-component terms and specificity of translation of the latter. The following methods have been used during the research: the method of continuous selection, component and etymological types of analysis, methods of reconstruction of structural and word-formative models of the lexical units under study, and quantitative processing of data. As a result of the research the author concludes that multicomponent transport logistics terms in the modern English language are mainly presented by two- and three-component units formed as a result of syntactic term-formation. In the process of translation of the English-language logistics terms into the Russian language, a selection of full or partial equivalent, explication (descriptive translation), loan translation, transcription / transliteration or a certain combination of these methods. While translating transport logistics terms from English into Russian it has been pointed out that less than half of the terms keep their multicomponent structure (model of term formation, number of components).

Konovalova M.V. - Evocative Representation and Influence in the Media Discourse (Based on the Example of a Headline) pp. 98-106

DOI:
10.7256/2454-0749.2017.3.23308

Abstract: The subject of this article is the analysis of evocative representation and influence from cognitive attitudes. The information concept is opened from the point of view of the media discourse and media information. Evocative influence is considered by the author as a subtype of speech influence, special attention is paid to the representation of conceptual features in the headline of the media text. In her article Konovalova provides definitions of evocative representation and influence. The material of the study was media texts in various languages. The research is based on the following research methods: 1) observation as a method of collecting empirical information; and 2) cognitive-matrix analysis of headlines of media texts. The results of the cognitive-matrix analysis of the US, British and German press headings are presented, during which several types of information concepts are considered. The novelty of the research is caused by the fact that the signs of information concepts in the headlines of media texts are first considered from the standpoint of the evocative impact on the recipient. It is proved that the verbalization of the concept in the title of the media text is carried out with the aim of providing an evocative influence.

Ivlieva P.D. - Authenticity and Historicism in the Novels of Irmtraud Morgner (1970 - 1980). pp. 107-116

DOI:
10.7256/2454-0749.2017.3.23269

Abstract: The subject of the study is the authentic works of Irmtraud Morgner, in particular the features of poetics, the style of her works and the ideological focus in the context of German gynocentrical prose of the second half of the twentieth century, as well as the historical subtext of the author's novel. The object of the study is the gynocentrical German prose by Irmtraud Morgner ("The Life and Adventures of Trobadora Beatrice as Chronicled by Her Minstrel Laura", "Amanda. A Witch's Tale") as a socio-cultural phenomenon. The author considers in detail such aspects of the topic as woman's emancipation, the protection of human rights and freedoms, military themes, which are reinterpreted and embodied in the text through author's mythologizing and the prism of female consciousness. The focus is on the ideas of the writer, Irmtraud Morgner concerning the consequences of the dominant patriarchal values, which, from her point of view, determined the course and development of history, systematically excluding women from history throughout its course, which led to the disharmonious development of society. Irmtraud Morgner offers her own, female, version of history, in which women are assigned the role of not a passive, homeless, disenfranchised observer, but a demiurge with an active life position and high moral values. A great attention is paid to the principle of historicism, which is directly related to authenticity and is its practical implementation in the works of Irmtraud Morgner. The rethinking of the tragic past, the awareness of German guilt, the confusion of a man in the post-war world, the search for support and love are reflected in the writer's works. The research is interdisciplinary in nature, synthesizing the historical-literary, comparative-typological method of linguistic and textual analysis, as well as psycholinguistics, philology, elements of international relations, political science, and is based on comparison and generalization of the obtained literary data and political and social thought. The novelty of the research consists, firstly, in opportunity to join the discussion about the existence of woman's prose as an independent literary phenomenon, as well as the genre of the gynocentrical novel and the terms of the poetics of the works of this trend of modern European, including German prose. Secondly, there are no studies in Russian literary criticism that would contain a comprehensive analysis of the work of Irmtraud Morgner in the context of German gynocentrical prose. One of the main conclusions of the study is the fact that the work of Irmtraud Morgner is a sample of gyinocentrical literature and a unique example of East German magical realism, whose task is to find reality in the magical. By reality the author means history and historical events. Thus, the novels of Irmtraud Morgner reflect the rejection of the existing reality along with the problems of the eternal confrontation between the gender and the social injustice of women who are brought to the forefront and received profound philosophical interpretation.

Ivlieva P.D. - From P. Corneille to L. Ulitskaya: the Evolution of Medea's Image in European literature pp. 117-124

DOI:
10.7256/2454-0749.2017.3.23441

Abstract: The development and rethinking of one of the most striking mythological images is traced in the work. The image of Medea, most often interpreted in the literature of the twentieth century, is skipped through the prism of modern conflicts with author's creative "arbitrariness", demonstrating its timelessness and relevance. The subject of the study is the image of an ancient Greek sorceress Medea, who became the source of inspiration for many writers, from where they got ideas, symbols, images, motifs, plot lines. The object of the study is the process of mythmaking through which the role of the mythological plot about Medea and the degree of its rethinking in works of fiction is revealed. The author uses a complex approach to the study of literary phenomena, cultural-historical and comparative-typological methods of research. The main conclusion of the study is that the realities of a new time, such as the phenomenon of women's emancipation, the protection of human rights and freedoms, military themes, social conflicts, information wars are reinterpreted and embodied in the text through author's mythicizing. Taking as a basis the mythological plot of each of the authors demythologize it to a greater or lesser extent, imparting individual distinctive features, putting emphasis differently.

Akayeva K.A. - Complex Characteristic of Classical Mechanics Terminological System as a Fundamental Terminological System (Based on the Material of the Modern English Language) pp. 125-139

DOI:
10.7256/2454-0749.2017.3.23461

Abstract: In her article Akaeva gives a complex characteristic of classical mechanics terminological system drawing on the material of the modern English language. An attempt is made to describe the corpus of classical mechanics terminological system as a fundamental terminological system on the basis of the elaborated criteria of differentiation of terminological systems verbalizing fundamental and applied knowledge. The author studies the correlation of the notions «terminology» and «terminological system», analyzes the peculiarities of terminological zones of classical and quantum mechanics as parts of physics. During the research the corpus of the Russian- and English-language classical mechanics terms of the total amount of 1350 units of each language taken by the method of continuous selection from special texts on the topic in question is analyzed. The following methods have been used during the research: the methods of contextual and component analysis, reconstruction of structural, word-formative and semantic models of the lexical units under study, and quantitative and statistical processing of data. As a result of the research the author comes to the conclusion that the corpus of the English- and Russian-language terms verbalizing scientific notions of classical mechanics is a separate terminological system, the constituent parts of which are closely interrelated and used for the formulation of laws, theories, theorems, rules, principles within the conception. Classical mechanics terminological system is mainly of fundamental character and has a number of general and particular features of terminological systems. The character of terminological system to a certain extent influences on the formed structural and semantic, as well as cognitive peculiarities of terminological units, on the selection of terminological elements in the process of terminological nomination and determines the specificity of use of terms in certain genres of scientific discourse.
