Classification and typology of modern conflicts

Abstract: The article debates the possibility and principles of constructing a typology of social conflict in the information society. The authors examined the basic methodological principles of analysis of social conflicts, and the architecture of the typology used in social Sciences for more traditional societies and came to the conclusion that there is a "matrix" of social conflict. In the information society, this "matrix" has not fundamentally different. The changes in its elements lead to the birth of a new kind of social conflict - information conflict. The main methods of the study include analysis, generalization, and typology. The authors examined the studies of both, past and modern researches in the social-philosophical field knowledge. Over the course of their work, the authors saw the possibility of building a typology of social conflict in the information society on the basis of existing classic social-humanitarian approaches and methods: social interaction, structural-functional, subject-subject and subject-object. The information society gives birth to a new type of social conflict - information conflict. It arises and escalates based on the principles of the "matrix" of social conflict, but has an important peculiarity - information elements in its structure. This requires the study and development of different principles of conflict management, which requires the construction of a typology of information conflict, and that will be the focus of our future works.

Malchuk O.I. - Operative divisions of correctional facilities and their work on inmate conflict prevention pp. 236-240

Abstract: This article is focused on the issue of high conflict potential between inmates, and operative divisions of correctional facilities as one of the means for conflict prevention. The viewpoints of several researchers on the nature of conflict are examined by the author, as well as the main forms of conflict prevention. Based on practical data the author describes the main functions of operative divisions in the field of inmate conflict prevention. The data analysis showed that the most typical crimes are bodily harm of varying degrees, and, less frequently, murder. Within correctional facilities the inmates who became subjected to a conflict situation sometimes provide false information, or no information at all. Conflicts between inmates that serve a term of imprisonment is one such situation. In order to enhance the efficiency of social and psychological work in detention facilities, to take various measures in order to rehabilitate the inmates and to reduce crime recurrence for crimes committed by prisoners, we must consider all groups of factors that affect the organization of the detention regime and security levels in correctional facilities.

Abstract: This work analyses one of the hot topics of the constitutional debate in Europe, - the democratic backslidings in some new EU members States. This is a problem not fully studied by Russian political science and legal doctrine. Although many works of Western research have been devoted to this subject, a general analysis of the political and constitutional causes of this regression is lacking. The author employs a cross-cultural method of legal research that includes a historical approach with multiple political connotations. The innovative features of the article include an outline of the characteristics of the transition to democracy in the Central and Eastern Europe. The author examines European Union's ‘rule of law’ enforcement mechanisms and the reasons for their inefficiency, the major reason for this being the immature system of democratic transition in Central and Eastern Europe. Another significant reason for this is the fetal stage of political culture and vague constitutional framework of new EU members, as well as flaws in their constitutional engineering.

Abstract: This article focuses on the issue of interpersonal conflicts in work teams, defined by the style of leadership within an organization. The relevance of this issue is supported by the survey of contemporary research in this area. The author presents empirical data that reveal important aspects of behaviour strategy choice within a conflict, depending on the predominant leadership style among Municipal budget organization's employees. The author shows key characterising traits of conflict behaviour choices, depending on the leadership style, as well as the correlation between such behaviours. Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Test, and the V.P.Zakharov and I.A.Zhuravlyov "Leadership styles in work teams study" questionnaire were the main tools of research. The processing of results was performed by using Student's t-test and Karl Pearson's Correlation coefficient. The main conclusions of this research are as follows: 1) the collegial (democratic) style of leadership means that predominant conflict behaviour strategies include Collaboration and Compromise; 2) the authoritarian leadership style is characterised by Avoidance, Accommodation and Competing becoming dominant; 3) the liberal leadership style tends to lack a predominant behaviour strategy for employees. The author also notes the significant correlations between conflict strategies and leadership styles.

Zaitsev A.V. - Dialogue: conflict or cooperation? (A survey of viewpoints and the innovative paradigm of dialogue management) pp. 257-266

Abstract: The subject of this study is the innovative paradigm of dialogue management. The author examines the viewpoints on dialogue - dialogue as a conflict and dialogue as cooperation. Thus the idea is formed that conflict and cooperation are ambivalent clusters of dialogue. Between conflict and cooperation lie five more clusters that differ from eachother by their degree of conflict potential. Each subsequent cluster, starting with confrontational dialog, all the way to its polar opposite, is more constructive than the previous one. Thus emerges the opportunity for managing the dialogue. The basis of the methodology used in this article includes systemic and comparative methods, elements of discourse analysis and conflict management theory. The author's personal contribution to the conflict management theory is the development of the dialogue model of overcoming contradiction and conflict. This approach may be used in public politics (the dialogue between the state and the civil society, intersectoral partnership, PR and GP communications, lobbying), as well as international relations.
