Albulanee A.H. - “The American Dream” in Norman Mailer's novel and travelogue “O'key, an American Novel” by B. Pilnyak: Shattered Illusions and Rethought Dreams pp. 1-16

DOI:

EDN: SIOVIG

Abstract: The concept of "dreams" as the core of American literature is recognized by most literary critics. The affirmation and apologetics of the "American dream", which is associated with the traditions of critical realism, remains the subject of discussion by both foreign and Russian researchers. Literary studies of the concept of the "American dream" encourage us to critically analyze the beliefs, experiences and aspirations underlying it, as well as its broader implications for society. The subject of this article is the concept of the "American dream", analyzed on the basis of Norman Mailer's novel "The American Dream" and the travelogue “O'key, an American Novel” by Boris Pilnyak. Using descriptive, hermeneutical, comparative, historical-literary and historical-cultural methods, the author examines the details of this concept that were not affected in previously published scientific works. The sources and prerequisites for the emergence of the phenomenon of the “American dream” in American literature are presented and its complex quintessences presented in the works of Mailer and Pilniak through the prism of different cultural contexts are revealed. The study showed that the failure of the American Dream project leads to its restructuring, which confirms its self-stabilizing nature and fundamental role in the process of personal self-determination of the character. Mailer, deeply rooted in American culture, criticizes the American dream from the inside, emphasizing individualism, social pressure and the pursuit of success. On the contrary, Pilniak offers us a different view of the "American dream". This is the view of a Soviet writer who emphasizes the relationship of the American dream with capitalism, democracy and social transformation. Conclusions. Despite the revealed differences in views, both authors encourage readers to take a critical look at the promises and pitfalls of the American dream, enriching our understanding of its universal appeal and enduring relevance.

Al- Anbagi S. - Russian and Arabic documentary tradition: syntactic aspect pp. 17-24

DOI:
10.25136/2409-8698.2024.5.70576

EDN: RHITMZ

Abstract: The object of the study is documents of business correspondence in Russian-Arabic official communication; the subject of the study is the syntactic features of Russian and Arabic business documents, the similarities and differences between Russian and Arabic syntax in business communication. Syntactic organization is very important for business writing; it serves as the final stage of its structure. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the identification of universal and culturally determined features of the syntactic structure in relation to Russian and Arabic-language business writing. Among the universal elements are the use of sentences that convey the non-personal nature of communication, indirect expression of imperativeness (using forms of the subjunctive mood, interrogative sentences), introductory words with the semantics of politeness. Original syntactic constructions can be used to achieve a similar communicative effect. The research was carried out on the basis of methods of analysis, synthesis, observation, description. Methods of component analysis, interpretation and classification, a system-structural method, and elements of a functional approach were used. As a result of the study, it was noted that the differences in the syntactic structure of Russian- and Arabic-language business letters are culturally and historically determined. The specifics of Arabic business syntax were influenced by increased requirements for the expression of politeness in society (indication of the regalia of the addressee), the predominance of the collective over the personal in culture, the origin of the official business style from the artistic, and not from the colloquial (long sentences). It is concluded that it is necessary to take into account cultural and historical factors both in the process of constructing business letters and in the process of their mutual translation. Among the important techniques of Russian-Arabic translation are combining sentences and increasing content
Linguistics
Lyan I., Anisova A.A. - Metaphorical models of the concept of "Longing" in the idiostyle of A. P. Platonov pp. 25-31

DOI:

EDN: RDOKTC

Abstract: The article is devoted to the identification and analysis of conceptual metaphors that are involved in the implementation of the concept of "Longing" in the works of A. P. Platonov. The subject of the study is the metaphorical models of the concept under study. At the present stage of linguistic science, metaphors are presented as complex phenomena that are not only a fact of language, but reflect the mechanisms of human consciousness and ideas about the world. Conceptual metaphors are considered as a special tool of human cognition, having a culturally archetypal nature. The mechanisms of perception lie in the subconscious of a person, at the level of which there are units of the mental level – concepts represented to a greater extent by conceptual (cognitive) metaphors. Metaphorical models are one of the components of a concept and can be identified with the "signs of the concept that form its structure". The work is carried out in line with the cognitive campaign in linguistics, based on the research of conceptual metaphor. The following methods were used: continuous sampling, descriptive, contextual, modeling. The scientific novelty of the research consists in identifying metaphorical models of the concept of "Longing" in the discourse of A. P. Platonov. As a result of the study, 6 cognitive models of metaphors were identified: "Localization", "Living being", "Substance", "Object", "Organ", "Receptacle". These models represent the idea of the concept of "Longing" as an entity that has a location inside a person, more often it is the heart of a person. This entity is represented as a living being or object. At the same time, if longing is a living being, then a person cannot control it, but can only hide from it, and if longing appears as an object, then a person can manipulate it. Also, longing is thought of as a kind of container that can absorb a person.

Romanova K.S., Ovcharenko A.Y. - The ideological and artistic features of the travelogues about Turkey in the Russian parent state literature of the 1920s (based on Summer in Angora by E. Lanceray and Istanbul and Turkey by P. Pavlenko) pp. 32-40

DOI:
10.25136/2409-8698.2024.5.40846

EDN: RXPNVE

Abstract: The article discusses the travelogues of Turkey by E. Lanceray and P. Pavlenko. If, until 1917, the Russian literature had described Turkey from the ethnographical and geographic perspectives or had made it a part of modernist vision, in the 1920s, the authors wrote mainly about its political, social and cultural changes. The aim of the article is to analyze Turkey’s image in the parent state literature of the 1920s, close the lacuna in its Asian text and form a more complete understanding of the Russian literary process of that period. The article uses the descriptive, biographical and culture-historical methods of research. It concludes that so different writers as Lanceray and Pavlenko representing the unlike generations and artistic worlds and making different accents in their writings – on ethnography and the formation of a new statehood, respectively – are prone to interpret the revolutionary changes taking place in Turkey optimistically. Therefore, the Turkish motive and thematic vector should be viewed as a relevant stage of forming the ideology and aesthetics of a new artistic method, which is to be known as socialist realism subsequently.

Mikhailenko A.Y. - The functions of peripheral combinations of N. M. Karamzin's novella "Natalia, the Boyar's Daughter" pp. 41-50

DOI:
10.25136/2409-8698.2024.5.70682

EDN: SUHGOC

Abstract: The linguistic description of a literary text involves consideration of its semantic structure, by which, following L. A. Novikov, we understand the system of images of the work and the linguistic means of their embodiment in the author's text. Peripheral combinations play a significant role in the arsenal of artistic techniques of N.M. Karamzin, implemented in sentimental novels, and demonstrate primarily the functions of indicating feelings and states, embellishing speech, author's characterization and poetization of prose text. The subject of the study of the analyzed text of N. M. Karamzin's novella "Natalia, the boyar's daughter" is periphrasis as a special means of creating a semantic structure. The relevance of the work is due to the clarification of the status of the periphrase as an important structural element of the sentimental story. The aim of the work was to clarify the concept of periphrasis in the modern and preceding N. M. Karamzin literary tradition and highlight its functions in the texts of the stories.  The methodological basis of the study was the work of Russian linguists of the V. V. Vinogradov school, based on a system-functional approach to the analysis of the language of fiction. The conducted research allowed us to conclude that the periphrasis is the basis of N. M. Karamzin's imagery and implements the functions of speech decoration; characterization, in which the periphrasis contains the author's attitude to the hero; stylistically marked periphrastic combinations serve to separate parts of the story, for example, the author's digression and the main text of the story. The novelty of the research lies in clarifying the functions of the periphrasis as the central means of the semantic structure of the sentimental story. Periphrases are becoming one of the new tools for constructing the semantic structure of a prose work of the emerging aesthetics of sentimentalism. The use of periphrases is included in the concept of reforming the Russian language by introducing elements peculiar to the sentimental style of French salon literature into the text, while generally ordering syntax at the level of a simple and complex sentence.

Li Q. - The image of China in modern Russian media (based on materials from the National Corpus of the Russian Language) pp. 51-60

DOI:
10.25136/2409-8698.2024.5.70692

EDN: TPFANE

Abstract: The article examines the representation in the language of modern media of the image of China as a component of Russian linguistic consciousness. It is noted that in the language of the media, the image of China that has developed in the Russian linguistic consciousness is simultaneously realized, and this image is constructed and supplemented in its modern implementation. The media have a significant impact on the image of China, what it will be like in the future, and also on how Russians perceive it. The analysis was based on the consideration of the functioning in the media of lexemes and phraseological units expressing Chinese semantics: China, Chinese, Chinaman, Celestial Empire, hieroglyphs, etc. Observation showed that the image of China is frequent. The research was carried out on the basis of traditional methods of observation, description, analysis, synthesis, and generalization. One of the main ones was the method of corpus linguistics. The method of linguocultural interpretation, structural-semantic method were used. It has been revealed that the most important part of the image of China, implemented in the media, is the idea of this country as a strong state with developed industry, economy and social sphere, as a strategic partner of the Russian Federation and a global antagonist of the United States. Attention is focused on the fact that the brightest means of representing the image of China in the Russian linguistic consciousness are comparative constructions, metaphors, phraseological units, through which such features of China as ancient history, rich and difficult to understand culture, and deep philosophy are actualized. A Chinese in the Russian linguistic consciousness is a hardworking, enterprising, intelligent, cunning, wise, independent person. The conclusion is made about the dynamic image of China, to the change of which the Russian media make a significant contribution.

Ilyin B.B. - The semantics of landscape vocabulary in the Lives of the Assumption Collection pp. 61-69

DOI:
10.25136/2409-8698.2024.5.70691

EDN: TWWWKO

Abstract: The purpose of the work is to describe the semantics of words nominating parts of the landscape in hagiographic texts that existed in Ancient Russia. The object of the study is words with spatial semantics denoting objects of nature. The subject of the study is the semantics of these lexical units. The material chosen for the analysis is the hagiographic texts included in the Assumption collection. To systematize the material, a classification of landscape vocabulary by semantic groups is proposed. The theoretical part of the work is an analysis of the already available methods of thematic ideography of landscape vocabulary, on the basis of which a classification of landscape vocabulary for the considered language material is proposed. The practical part of the article is devoted to the description of the meanings of words that represent a group of landscape vocabulary. Attention is drawn to the meaning of the word, the frequency of its use, and the connection with the event semantics of texts. The lexical material was obtained by the continuous sampling method. Lexicographic, contextual, and quantitative analyses were used to identify semantics. The article describes the words with their basic meanings that characterize the landscape in the lives of the Assumption collection: elevations: mountain, hill; flat spaces – coincide with open spaces; depressions: deep, ditch, pit, cave (pechera); overgrown areas: boron, lѣs, squabble; open areas: field, deserts; water spaces and land areas next to it: source, rѣka, sea, mouth, brѣg, island. It is noted that the group of landscape vocabulary is few and infrequent in use. The author comes to the conclusion that the semantics of landscape naming in the considered hagiographies includes elements of various linguistic Slavic systems. It is emphasized that the formation of metaphorical meanings in landscape vocabulary occurs under the influence of biblical contexts. The novelty of the research lies in the chosen source of linguistic facts: the hagiographic texts of the Assumption Collection did not become the subject of systematic lexical and semantic analysis. It can also be noted that the analysis of spatial vocabulary based on the material of texts that existed in Ancient Russia was not carried out. The work can be useful in studies of the category of locativity in the Old Russian language, as well as in the study of images of space in Slavic hagiographic texts.

Nikonov S.B., E Y., Baichik A.V., Labush N.S. - Posthumanistic transformation of the subject in the "virtual personal presence" at the ontological level pp. 70-78

DOI:

EDN: ZEXTFP

Abstract: The relevance of this research is due to the growing commercialization and integration of "virtual reality" (VR) technology into everyday life and science, which requires understanding its impact on the user's experience and the construction of human subjectivity, as well as the potential for modifying human interaction with the outside world. Scientists are discussing the potential of VR and expressing the need for it to open the doors to a new era for humanity as soon as possible. In this context, critical analysis and philosophical reflection on the development of virtual reality technology and the possible impact on human life become extremely relevant and topical. The subject of the study is the content and transformation of the subject of reality in the virtual space through mediatization. The object of the study is virtual reality   The work is based on the deconstruction method based on the principles of interpreting what is read without distorting the meaning. With his help, the most significant and appropriate fragments were selected for scientific understanding and research of the phenomenon. As a result of the study, it was found that the informatization of the subject in the process of interaction with the virtual reality environment, a person as a subject is no longer an isolated substance, but expresses his existence through informatization. The concept of "virtual personal presence" provides a person with a framework for ontological expansion in the virtual dimension, therefore, the activity of virtual reality has a profound influence on the subjective construction of a person, characterized by posthumanistic features. Along with this, such influence at the level of ontology is mainly manifested in the virtualization and informatization of the subject. Virtualization of the subject not only shows the expansion of subjectivity in the virtual dimension, but also expresses that it always retains an ever-changing, plastic potential; informatization of the subject implies that in the activity of virtual reality, the subject represents his existence in the form of a specific information structure.

Abstract: The subject of this study is the era of smart media, which will have a significant impact on the news media ecosystem. It will lead to another industrial transformation and change in the news industry. The convergence of traditional and new media is made possible by 5G technology, cloud computing and big data technologies. The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the pace of media analytics, digitisation and platformisation. In addition, recent years have seen a surge in the development of artificial intelligence, which has been applied to various fields such as military, healthcare, retirement, etc. The development of ChatGPT has been an important signal of intelligent change in the media industry. The news media industry is undergoing a transformation that is already well underway. The research methodology is comprehensive and includes: descriptive method, comparative data analysis, statistical analysis and content analysis. The novelty of the research is the analysis of intellectual media paradigms in China and Russia. The nature of media interaction between the two countries, as well as the trajectory of global innovative technologies are investigated. Trends related to the development of digitalisation and AI in the following areas are described in detail: digitalisation of operations, news production, development of media platforms and AI technologies, and media content digitalisation processes. A prospective analysis is made of the need for international specialists with both humanitarian and technical competences. The digital and intellectual transformation of news media can take the cooperation between the two countries to a new historical level. In addition, media cooperation between China and Russia can help stabilise the world situation and provide a favourable ecological environment for international media.

Khromova D.A., Kutdyusova A.I. - Artistic geography of "Middle Volga texts" by D. Osokin pp. 98-106

DOI:
10.25136/2409-8698.2024.5.70715

EDN: XNOORW

Abstract: This article is devoted to the representation of the Middle Volga space in the works of the Russian prose writer Denis Osokin. Domestic literary scholars propose to consider artistic space from the point of view of spatial topography, which implies the opposition of abstraction to concreteness, its horizontal or vertical orientation, spatial extent and localization (expansion-compression, openness-closedness). The search for new methods for studying literary texts has given rise to the need for a comprehensive method, in which a method combining cultural-historical, mythopoetic and geopoetic analysis is quite promising. The subject of the research is the artistic space of Osokin’s “Volga region” texts. The purpose of the study is to determine the specifics of the literary geography of Osokin’s works related to the Volga region. The work uses such scientific methods of analysis as cultural-geographical, structural-semiotic methods and contextual analysis. The scientific novelty of the research is determined by the fact that among modern literary works there are no works devoted to the study of the artistic space of the works of many modern authors, in particular Denis Osokin, his works are considered insufficiently in relation to the phenomena of Kazan and other regional texts. The main conclusion of the study is the substantiation of the special properties of the artistic space of the Middle Volga in the works of D. Osokin, which has attractive properties – uniqueness, semantic richness, cognitive value. Reflection of geographical space in works of art makes it possible to represent and interpret the sociocultural processes of a place and set ontological guidelines. Osokin’s Middle Volga region is a metaspace where the national is organically combined with the foreign, it is a space of memory and the rediscovery of lost meanings.

WANG S. - Lexemes vozrast (age) and vozrastnoy (age) as euphemisms in modern media discourse pp. 107-114

DOI:
10.25136/2409-8698.2024.5.70684

EDN: VSVIWN

Abstract: The object of this study is the lexemes vozrast and vozrastnoy; the subject of the study is the euphemistic uses of these lexemes and their semantic derivation in modern Russian and in media discourse. The author examines the definitions of lexemes in the main explanatory dictionaries of the Russian language, analyzing their semantic structure. The use of these lexemes in modern journalistic discourse as euphemisms is analyzed on the basis of the National Corpus of the Russian language. The corpus study confirms a significant number of euphemistic names of age in modern Russian, as well as the assumption that in modern journalistic discourse the lexeme vozrast can be used in the meaning of ‘old age’, and vozrastnoy – in the meaning of ‘elderly’. The research was conducted using general scientific methods of component and contextual analysis, corpus research, functional-semantic method, elements of quantitative method, etc. The scientific novelty of the study consists in identifying the features of the functioning of the lexemes vozrast and vozrastnoy, acting as euphemisms, in modern Russian speech (based on the material of media discourse), namely, in the high use of euphemistic uses. Contexts with such uses usually report that the psychological age does not coincide with the physical one, about the desire of people to look younger than their years (more often about women), to hide their real (physical) age, about worries about the past youth. The euphemization reflects the cultural notion of old age as an abnormal age. It is concluded that the euphemistic meanings of the lexemes vozrast and vozrastnoy have become entrenched in the language, have become widely used and stylistically neutral. Thanks to the euphemistic meaning, the lexemes have expanded their use.

Voronovsky A.A., Reznik L.V. - Friendship-rivalry between G. Hauptmann and T. Mann in creativity and correspondence pp. 115-123

DOI:
10.25136/2409-8698.2024.5.70700

EDN: VUOHLW

Abstract: The article is devoted to the history of the relationship between two outstanding German writers Thomas Mann and Gerhart Hauptmann. The relationship between them developed as a rivalry, reflected not only in their work, but also in their correspondence. At different periods of their acquaintance, Hauptmann and Mann experienced the most contradictory feelings towards each other – from enthusiastic recognition to categorical denial. The publication in 1925 of Mann's novel "The Magic Mountain" became the first harbinger of the beginning of mutual estrangement after many years of friendship. The image of Mynheer Peperkorn sensitively hurt Hauptmann's ego. In addition, there was a rivalry between the writers related to the imitation of Goethe and the struggle for the right to be considered the national poet of Germany. In 1929, with the support of Hauptmann, Mann received the Nobel Prize in Literature. However, the latter's reaction provoked hostile rejection from an older contemporary. In 1933, the rupture of contacts between Mann and Hauptmann occurred for political reasons, and communication was never resumed, despite an attempt at reconciliation on Hauptmann's part. The methodological basis of the article is a historical and literary approach, in which the biographies, correspondence and diaries of Mann and Hauptmann are analyzed, as well as the interaction between writers reflected in their artistic work is studied. The scientific novelty of this article is determined by the lack of domestic research on the relationship between Thomas Mann and Gerhart Hauptmann. This work introduces for the first time into Russian literary criticism a number of relevant texts: letters and diary entries of Mann and Hauptmann, in which they express their attitude to each other and raise a wide range of issues of literary creativity and culture. The difficult relationship between the two writers, who defended completely different literary and ideological positions, is not only reflected in their correspondence and in their artistic work, but also largely reflects the experience of creative self-reflection of each. The main issue turned out to be the relationship between art and life, the possibility of creativity autonomy. If Mann insisted on the inevitable invasion of "life" into the sphere of the artist's activity, then Hauptmann saw in art the poet's salvation from his unworthy vanity.

Sun' Y. - The linguistic and cultural script "tea drinking" in Chinese communication pp. 124-135

DOI:
10.25136/2409-8698.2024.5.70518

EDN: UJGXYG

Abstract: The article explores the cultural significance of tea drinking in Chinese communication by studying the corresponding linguistic and cultural script. The historical context and the current state of Chinese tea culture is considered; the language used to describe the tea drinking process, including individual lexemes, phrases and idiomatic expressions, is analyzed. Also, the article explores the norms of etiquette and traditions associated with tea drinking. A brief overview of tea idioms in the Chinese language reflecting the linguistic and cultural value of tea drinking is provided. The conclusion is made about the high importance of the considered linguistic and cultural script in Chinese culture, as well as the need to introduce this linguistic and cultural component into the process of teaching Chinese to foreign students. The subject of the study is linguistic and cultural scripts relevant within the framework of Chinese linguoculture using the example of the script "tea party". The novelty of the study lies in the fact that it provides a multidimensional analysis of the linguistic and cultural script "Tea Party" in Chinese linguoculture. In particular, the specialized tea vocabulary, phraseological units, as well as etiquette replicas that are related to tea drinking in Chinese linguoculture are considered. In Chinese culture, there is a complex and interesting tea etiquette to study. The linguistic and cultural script "Tea Party" in the framework of Chinese culture consists of three parts: the preamble of the event, the event and the result of the event. The preamble of the event includes a greeting and an order for tea (the latter is relevant if the tea party takes place in a tea room). An event (i.e., a tea party) involves brewing tea and drinking tea. The latter usually goes without words, because in Chinese culture it is customary to turn off all possible stimuli for the sake of enjoying a tea drink. Besides, the important part is gratitude for a good tea. The result of the event is the payment of the bill (if it happens in a tea shop) and farewell at the end of the tea party.
