Popov E.A. - Conceptualization of the Art Crisis: the Experience of Branch sociology pp. 13-26

DOI:
10.7256/2454-0757.2023.8.43752

Abstract: The subject of the research in the article is the crisis of art, which is considered both exogenous (its occurrence is associated with various external factors) and endogenous, identified as a state of self-sufficiency in the existence of art. The emphasis is placed on the analysis of the experience of the sociology of art in understanding the crisis and crisis as a factor in the development of time and man. An assessment of the theorizing about the crisis of art at the interdisciplinary level is given, and the main emphasis is placed on the potential of sociological knowledge in stating the state of art under study. In addition, the main directions of conceptualization of the crisis of art in science are revealed.   The main conclusions of the study are the following key provisions: 1) conceptualization of the crisis of art within the framework of the relevant branch of sociology is carried out both in terms of understanding art as a form of public consciousness, and from the point of view of the correlation of form and content, as well as ideological and artistic potential; 2) conceptualization of the crisis of art is an independent perspective of scientific research that sets the task of objectifying the crisis of art, understanding the basic laws of its occurrence 3) the sociology of art identifies the crisis of art as a state in which the role of art in the socialization and inculturation of the individual decreases.

Popov E.A. - Sacralization of the value structures of human existence in the spiritual culture of the Greater Altai pp. 182-190

DOI:
10.7256/2454-0757.2023.5.40874

Abstract: The article characterizes the substantial level of sacralization of values in the spiritual culture of the Greater Altai. The main emphasis is placed on identifying the grounds for the sacralization of values. It is established that the world order is one of the bases of sacralization and simultaneously performs the function of consolidating cultural carriers. The key thesis of the research is the thesis that spiritual culture cannot be fully comprehended without reference to sacred values. In addition, the sacralization of values is considered as a condition for ensuring spiritual security and continuity of values and norms between generations of cultural carriers. The assessment of the spiritual potential of the culture of the Greater Altai is of great importance. The main conclusions of the study are the following provisions: 1) the sacralization of key values is carried out at the essential or substantial level, while the stages of sacralization are mainly "tied" to the religious and mythological development of culture and its value-normative system; 2) sacralization encompasses those value structures that acquire importance in human existence and are a factor in the integration of cultural carriers and their generations; 3 sacralization is the process of identifying specific value-semantic structures – they are attributed symbolic meaning, and they are also correlated with certain cultural codes, signs and texts.

Popov E.A. - Spiritual Security in the Conditions of Modern Cultural and Civilizational Development pp. 10-19

DOI:
10.25136/2409-7144.2023.2.39738

Abstract: The article reveals some possibilities for conceptualizing such a concept as spiritual security. At the same time, the author proceeds from the position that the political context of understanding spiritual security prevails in modern scientific discourse, but it clearly cannot be considered complete or sufficient. That is why the identification of spiritual security from the point of view of the cultural-philosophical approach provides the greatest heuristic potential for understanding spiritual security. Thus, the subject of the study is spiritual security within the boundaries of cultural and civilizational development. The emphasis is not on the genesis of the development of civilization and culture, but on their conjugacy in modern conditions. The main conclusions of this article are the following key provisions: 1) understanding the conjugacy of civilization and culture within the framework of the cultural-philosophical approach significantly increases the possibilities of conceptualizing these phenomena; 2) the study of spiritual security should be conducted through the prism of the correlation of this phenomenon with the levels of development of civilizations and cultures; 3) the absolute advantage of scientific understanding of spiritual security becomes a value-semantic perspective that allows overcoming the traditionally existing socio-political a vector in understanding spiritual security. The advantage of the proposed aspect is the orientation to the data of large-scale empirical studies devoted to the transformations of the value structures of human existence.

Popov E.A. - Civilization and Culture: the "Centralization" of Values pp. 41-51

DOI:
10.25136/2409-7144.2023.1.39568

Abstract: In this article, the emphasis is placed on identifying some points of conjugacy of culture and civilization, while the problem is that quite often such a relationship is discussed at the level of generalization of certain research positions, but it still needs a more objectified reception. On this basis, the question of the relationship between culture and civilization is considered through the mechanism of "centralization" of values. Thus, it is through this mechanism that it is possible to establish the most clear criteria for the conjugacy of culture and civilization, while showing how value structures are subject to transformation as a result of such a relationship, the main conclusions of the study are the following: 1) some methodological possibilities of identifying the conjugacy of culture and civilization are analyzed; emphasis is placed on civilizational and value-interiorization approaches; 2) some nuances of value structuring of the modern development of culture and civilization are identified; 3) the mechanism of "centralization" of values is considered as the most effective way of differentiating values in the space of culture and the space of civilizational development; 4) under The "centralization" of values is understood as the redistribution of values in the conditions of cultural and civilizational development of modernity (the very concept of "centralization" of values was introduced by the Dutch researcher Annamaria Hagen); 5) in order to characterize value transformations, the results of the World Values Survey are used.

Popov E.A. - The Profession of a Psychologist: the Ideals of Applicants and the Validity of the Choice of Students pp. 28-43

DOI:
10.25136/2409-7144.2022.11.39158

Abstract: The main problem is the frequent mismatch of ideals when choosing a future profession and various aspects of subsequent professionalization of a person. As a result, there may be a loss of interest in the profession and an individual's alienation from his professional choice. This article touches upon the issue that the idealization of the profession of a psychologist coincides with certain values of applicants, and then during their studies at the university, students make adjustments to their ideas based on obtaining the necessary knowledge and skills. This allows to achieve the effect of the right professional choice and "join" the profession. The purpose of the study is to show how the professional choice of future psychologists is formed and how it is related to the value orientations of individuals. At the same time, psychology of professions and sociology of professions became the main methodological approaches. The empirical study was conducted in 2018-2021 and was based on the method of semi-structured interviews with applicants and later with university students who are receiving the profession of a psychologist. The sample was determined by a combination of "applicant-student" in the system of universities that train future psychologists (42 applicants and then 20 students from this group). As a result of the study, the following results were obtained: the idealization of the profession of a psychologist is associated with the need to help people, while applicants are guided in their ideas about the profession by their value stereotypes: respect for the individual, following moral principles, responsibility for themselves and others, etc. Idealization of the profession of a psychologist is also connected with its cognitive capabilities in two main directions: human cognition and cognition of the surrounding reality and the world.

Popov E.A. - Solidarity as the phenomenon of modern culture pp. 26-32

DOI:
10.7256/2454-0757.2021.11.37047

Abstract: This article elucidated the phenomenon of solidarity from the perspective of value-semantic characteristic. The existing research on solidarity focus attention on the social nature and social aspects of the formation and development of this phenomenon. However, this is insufficient to get a clear picture of the factors that determine the solidary interaction of individuals: sacred values, values of the good, historical memory, etc. Examination of solidarity from such perspective allows developing such independent avenue of research as axiology of solidarity, etc. The main conclusions acquired in the course of studying solidarity as the cultural phenomenon consists in the following statements: 1) values are the determinants of solidarity, although the type of values (political, ideological, social) are of little significance; 2) solidarity is rather associated with universal values that are present in each culture, regardless of its national distinctness; 3) special role in studying solidarity is played by the empirical techniques  that allow specifying the value aspects of manifestations of solidarity in various social groups and communities, as well as sociocultural systems

Popov E.A. - Philosophical reception in modern art history pp. 46-56

DOI:
10.7256/2454-0757.2021.11.37070

Abstract: This article explores the applicability of philosophical reception in terms of analysis of the phenomenon and the essence of art and artworks. The goal of this research lies in substantiation of the need for proliferation of the philosophical reception in art history for the holistic study of art in the aspect of its “ontologization”. Emphasis is placed on the fact that modern art history sets the tone in examination of the formal and substantive sides of art, its types and genres. Methodological and theoretical framework for art history is the philosophy of art, which recently however does not hold the leading position in the analysis of art, and even yields to aesthetics. The problem of comprehending the essence of art and the value role of artwork in life of a person and society remains open. It is rather not the subject of close attention of the art historians, but may become such. Thus, the art history analysis should be complemented with the philosophical reception. Namely this aspect is given special attention in this research. Philosophical reception is a peculiar algorithm for understanding the meanings and ideas of the artwork, as well as realization of the essence of this phenomenon. Art is often viewed as one of the forms of collective consciousness (along with science, mythology, etc.); however, the philosophical reception helps to establish the value-semantic nature of art that prevails over the social and aesthetic. Comprehension of any genre or type of art through the prism of art history is essentially refracted in the philosophical reception. In this case, the researcher is able not only assess the style and genre nature of the artwork, but also to trace its position in the turn of eras, personality concepts, ideologies, and worldviews. It is undoubtedly gives an apparent advantage to any modern researcher who aims to perceive the essence of art.

Popov E.A. - Meaningless labor in the concept of David Graeber pp. 36-44

DOI:
10.7256/2454-0757.2021.8.36451

Abstract: David Graeber (1961–2020) is a former professor at the London School of Economics, sociologist, and social anthropologist, prominent thinker of modernity; in the decades ahead, his views and social ideas will be highly demanded in social and humanistic knowledge. Assessment is given to his social theory of labor, which Graeber dedicated multiple books and articles, viewing labor as a futile phenomenon for the society and individual. He notes that meaningless labor in just a set of actions subordinated to some social force. The analysis of his ideas reveals several important vectors of modern social mentality: 1) in reconsideration of the role of labor in life of a person and society, the social frame of references (from the perspective of total sociality) is brought to the forefront, while the economic and political vectors of the assessment of labor assessment are shifted to the background; 2) meaningless labor becomes the social norm and generates the new system of values, for example, bureaucracy, administration, office, etc.; 3) gradually and with strong consolidation in society, labor becomes part of the active symbolic struggle (for example, for power) and symbolic exchange, which entails inequality between people and social commonalities. The article substantiates the heuristic nature of application of the concept of meaningless labor in characterizing the central ideas pf David Graeber, taking into account the fact that labor is viewed as an “imitation” of social value. This thesis is fundamental in comprehension of Graeber’s theory, as all his works contain a refrain on the need to reconsider the key social values (labor, money, finance, taxes, resources, and other), the nature of which is determined by both economic and sociocultural relations.

The priority focus of research is the interdisciplinary approach based on axiological methodology for determining value priorities in the society. The following conclusions are made: 1) in the current conditions of social development, art becomes more obscure, difficult to interpret, possibly distorting the reality, henceforth is referred to as art; 2) despite the shift in accents in interpretation of the types and forms of art, it remains a powerful factor of consolidation of society, preserving the worldview experience of many generations of the bearers of culture.

DOI:
10.25136/2409-7144.2019.4.28793

Abstract: This article explores the state of thesis works on sociological sciences. Focus is made on determination of genre specificity of thesis works. Special attention is given to identification of merits and demerits of  thesis research. Based on the analysis of thesis works defended over the period from 2016 to 2017, it is concluded that their number increases in the selected academic fields, but the quality does not always meet the high standards. On the other hand, it is noted that the sociologists remain committed to the traditional sociological topics – the institutions of education and family, problems of studentship, Internet, and communications. Dissertators most often refer to the regional experience of functioning of the selected social institutions or flow of certain social processes. The research conducted at interdisciplinary level are also common. The article demonstrates that the genre specificity of thesis works consists in correspondence of the conducted research to the overall trends of development of sociological knowledge. At the same time, the anti-genre of thesis work on sociology depends on the specific characteristics of the object-subject space of research, and not always in any ways is related to the scientific crisis or certain condition of sociological discipline.

DOI:
10.7256/2454-0706.2018.1.25321

Abstract: This article examines the phenomenon of legal life of the individual and society. Determination is made on the role of legal life in development of public relations and the state legal system in general. Legal life is being examined within a number of other independent phenomena – legal reality, legal mentality, and law. DOI:
10.7256/2409-7144.2017.3.20787

Abstract: This article is dedicated to examination of the question of understanding of the phenomena of spirituality within the framework of sociological knowledge. Interdisciplinary aspect of the study of spirituality and its phenomena suggests domination of philosophy in this regard. However, from the perspective of sociology, in uniting the potentials of sociology of culture, sociology of spiritual life, and sociology of art, can be formulated an independent approach towards the analysis of human spiritual realm. Such interaction means the triumvirate of sociological branches. And if each of them separately resolves the question of cultural social being, various forms of spiritual life and art, the triumvirate or the theoretical methodological interaction ensures the high level of participation on namely sociology in examination of the spirituality alongside accumulation of the heuristic results. This carries a crucial meaning for the efficiency of interdisciplinary understanding of a complicated scientific object. Thus, the article underline the necessity of consideration of the cooperation between the three branches of sociology for increasing the efficiency of participation of social sciences in perceiving the phenomena of spirituality. The conclusions of the conducted research consist in the following scientific positions: 1) study of the phenomena of spirituality must be realizes in close interaction between the various scientific branches; 2) cooperation between the sociology of culture, sociology of spiritual life, and sociology of art is capable of ensuring the research of the phenomena of spirituality on high heuristic theoretical methodological level.

DOI:
10.7256/2454-0676.2017.1.21678

Abstract: The article is devoted to analyzing particularities of competences estimation in the system of vocational training. The authors demonstrate that the main feature of competence evaluation is that results of education are described through behavioral acts observed and compared to certain criteria of academic success. Such evaluation system implies constant comparison of academic results to educational and professional standards, educational targets, and search for relevant 'instruments' of competence estimation. Depending on a specific branch of education, these instruments include the following: implementation of practical tasks, conduction of projects, development of legal and regulatory documents, description of organisational operations and technologies, solution of case studies, etc. The main methodological approach used by the authors in the course of their research is the systems approach that has allowed to view particularities of competence estimation in terms of particularities of functioning of the education system. The main conclusions of the research are the following: 1) the need to develop the system of estimating students' competences is caused by the necessity to improve the quality of education at all stages of training future professionals and specialists; 2) efficiency of competences evaluation and estimation in the system of vocational training depends on numerous intra- and extraeducational factors.

Abstract: The subject of this research is the interdisciplinary connections between sociology and other sciences that affect the formation and development of social thinking. The accent is made on the assessment of an empirical and theoretical-methodological potential of sociology made by the representatives of the “related” disciplines on human and society. Based on the analysis of publications on economics, political science, demography, culturology, and other spheres of socio-humanitarian knowledge, it is demonstrated that the colleagues-humanitarians highly appreciate the applied nature of sociological science and lean towards the use of sociological methods of the empirical research; however, theoretical, and especially methodological potential of sociology in the context of interdisciplinary cooperation remains in low demand. The authors made the following conclusions: 1) the establishment of borders of the interdisciplinary cooperation between various sciences often carries a formal character; at the same time, the role of one or another area of knowledge in such cooperation is being stated, however, this problem should be examined in a deeper level, focusing attention on the assessment of the systemic character of such connection; 2) sociology often refers to the potentials of other science, while other sciences are willing to borrows from sociology just the methodical support, therefore it is necessary to explore this problem.

DOI:
10.7256/2454-0625.2016.3.17615

Abstract: The main purpose of the present research article is to summarize methodological peculiarities of art research. The author's approach to the topic has allowed to describe destructive and constructive aspects of defining methodological grounds for studying art and artistic forms from the scientific point of view. According to the author, the main problem is the unreasoned application of the so-called integrated approach and analysis. Not all researchers can handle this approach so their researches have methodological gaps. On the other hand, the author emphasizes the crucial role of the interdisciplinary approach in studying the phenomenon of art. The methodological basis of the research is defined by the systems analysis of arts in the human life and society. The main conclusions of the research are the following: 1) Reasoned and adequate application of the integrated approach and analysis is very important for studying the phenomenon of art. The idea of art studies as a plain combination of research methods and/or techniques makes it much easier to achieve the research objectives. 2) Interdisciplinary approach has certain advantages, however, important rules are to be observed in order to avoid the risk of obtaining declarative or invalid results.

DOI:
10.7256/2454-0684.2016.2.17635

Abstract: This article is dedicated to the examination of possible risks in development of the modern Russian sociology. Focus is made on the analysis of situations associated with the risks that are substantiated by the specificity of scientific development as a whole, and sociology in particular. Among these risks are the following: the dilution of the scientific status, flaws in the research culture, substitution of the very principles of scientificity, tip in the balance towards scientific technologies, and others. The attention is also given to the risks of the pseudoscientific character, for example the politicization of sociology or economism of the research results. The author poses a question on the correlation between the appearance of the stated risks and the emergence of the sociological margin of error in conduction of certain applied researches or occurrence of the flaws in the style of social thinking of sociologists. The main conclusions consist in the following statements: consideration of the detected risks for the development of sociology can affect preservation of values of such science as sociology; the peculiarities of manipulation of these applied researches, the low professional culture of sociologists, and their separation from the professional community can be attributed to such risks.

Popov E.A. - Modern sociological knowledge in the conditions of culture-centric cooperation of sciences

DOI:
10.7256/2454-0684.2015.12.15623

Abstract: The subject of this research is the interdisciplinary collaboration of sciences and knowledge overall, and sociological science in particular. The experience of the development of sciences most often confirms their formal mutual cooperation; at the same time methods and techniques of conducting the applied researchers are being borrowed. Every so often, sciences tolerate the partial use of the methods of empirical sociology. They do not evaluate neither the adequacy of implementation of one or another method or means of measurement, nor devise necessary tools. Such state of collaboration cannot be called interdisciplinary as it exists; thus, the article focuses of the determination of boundaries of interdisciplinarity within the socio-humanistic knowledge. The subject of the research is being reviewed in the broad spectrum of the value-conceptual phenomena within mutual systematic cooperation. Among the main conclusions are the following positions: sociology utilizes many research methods, and other sciences borrow first and foremost the methodological base. However, interdisciplinarity also provides other conditions and results of the collaboration of the scientific knowledge: a) theoretical and methodological reflection; b) accord of actions in resolution of a specific scientific problem; c) establishment of a connection with foreign researches; d) creation of  a scientific school, etc.

DOI:
10.7256/2454-0757.2015.10.15264

Abstract: The subject of the present research is the category of culture as it is used in social studies and humanities. The author of the article pays attention to the fact that culture is the most frequent research subject in all kinds of sciences. Somehow this makes a researcher lose his intuition and the academic community to feel confused about what 'culture' is meant in a research in particular. This is what has formed the basis for the present research. Indeed, the question about whether the category of culture survives the methodic doubts is highly important. Every scientist has his own understanding of culture and therefore applies his own practices to such research and this is the circumstance that emphasizes the need for scientists to reach a certain agreement regarding the definition of culture. In his research Popov has used  mostly the comparative method that allows to answer the question about the survival of the category of culture taking into account the trends of modern philosophy, cultural studies and sociology. The main conclusions of the research are the following: 1) socio-humanitarian sciences need to universalize thecategory of culture; 2) philosophy, cultural studies and sociology are the disciplines where the problem of the category's survival is especially pressing and therefore representatives of these sciences need to agree on a common definition of culture in their researches.

Abstract: The subject of the research is the culture of scientific work in the field of modern social and humanitarian knowledge, and, in particular, sociological science. It is worth mentioning that the research culture is connected not only with methodical security and professionalism of the scientists, but also with such categories as the researcher’s responsibility for the results, as well as search for the truth. The last factor is of great significant for the system of knowledge in general, and moreover, it impacts the justification of the results of the research. The main research method is theoretical analysis of the issue of scientist’s responsibility for the results of his/her study in the field of sociology. The main conclusions of the study are as follows: 1) scientific responsibility is one of the main factors of development of modern sciences and sociohumanitarian knowledge; 2) search for truth, and not only simple statements of scientific data is one of the most necessary conditions for the scientific research in sociology and also in sociohumanitarian knowledge in general.

Abstract: The subject of the research is social security. The handlings of this phenomenon mainly concern the mechanisms of provision of this sort of security by the state. Modern social and humanitarian science often understands social security as a condition of the society when various social, political and economic threats are overcome, and thus, society, individuals and state cooperate harmoniously. In the meantime, social security should also be considered in its sociocultural aspect. This is what the present article focuses on. The main methodological point of view of the considered topic is sociocultural approach which allows to study social security as a part of a system of values and norms. The main conclusions of the conducted research are as follows: 1) social security should be considered not only from the point of view of sociocentrism (as a phenomenon that provides social stability), but also from the point of view of sociocultural approach (as a phenomenon that contributes to the full-fledged interaction of society, individuals, state and culture); 2) culture-centric vector of study of social security in modern science allows to disclose value and norm "potential" of the present subject of study.

DOI:
10.7256/2454-0722.2015.8.16071

Abstract: The object of the present research article is the situation of interdisciplinary interaction of sciences and branches of knowledge, the subject of the research is the interaction between contemporary psychology and sociology. The focus is made on the development of the unified strategy of such integration. Within the framework of this development strategy, special place is given to the science consumptive status of a particular sphere of knowledge, obervation of the principles of scientific rigour and implementation of sociocultural resources. The fact that both psychology and sociology follow this strategy considerably increases their potential for interdisciplinary interaction not only with each other but also with the other branches of knowledge. As a rule, interdisciplinary interaction of sciences and branches of knowledge involves the system analysis of the problem. This is the system approach that defines the nature of the integration of sciences, all the more so that both psychology and sociology belong to sociohumanitarian knowledge. The following provisions have been recognized as the main conclusions of the research: 1) sociology and psychology are close spheres of knowledge both in terms of their scientific status and science-consumptive specifics; 2) particular method or research methodology is what brings sociology and psychology close to each other; 3) both psychology and sociology use an integrated analysis of the phenomena and processes of social reality.

DOI:
10.7256/2454-0676.2015.2.15366

Abstract: The subject of the research is the relationship between social knowledge and culture of scientific work. In terms of modern socio-humanitarian science, research traditions are a very topical issue reltaed to both intrascientific and would-be scientific tendencies. The former includes a quantitative growth of researches practically in all branches of knowledge which leads to the decrease in the quality and culture of scientific work. The would-be scientific tendencies include the fact that researches are often ordered by the government or other subjects. The main research method used by the author of the article is the problem analysis of the relationship between social knowledge and culture of scientific work, the author also uses the method of comparison. The main conclusions of the research are the following: 1) social knowledge obviously needs to improve the culture of research as a result of a growing number of researches in this sphere; 2) sociology is one of the spheres that 'present' research results based on applied methods, thus sociology should consider the need to follow the standards and norms of scientific work first and utmost.

Abstract: Recently the contiguity of different spheres in social and humanitarian sciences, for instance, sociology of culure and social cultural studies,  has been the hypostasis in creating unified polyparadigmal principles of studying socio-cultural environment. The article reveals some opportunities of the most appreciated (from the point of science) contiguity of modern sociology of culture and social cultural studies in their search for the 'methodological ideal' and actualization of the object field where special attention is paid at the relations between culture, society and human. The author of the article makes an emphasis on discovering the  main approaches to the subject-specific peculiarities of sociology of culture. It is concluded that it is not enough to include only cultural phenomena as the object and subject of sociology of culture. On the other hand, it is admitted that it is very important to study the relations between society, human and culture from the point of view of modern sociology of culture. The author also discusses peculiarities of social cultural studies aimed at studying cultural phenomena from the point of view of social studies.

Abstract: This article considers the sociocultural codes which influence the cultural environment in regional and municipal development. These codes include socioeconomic, ethnocultural, spiritual-consolidating, and ethnosocial codes. Special attention needs to be paid to the introduction of the category "municipal culture", which deals with different aspects of a city's cultural environment, the institutional characteristics of which are associated not only with the realities of everyday life but which are also a vector of cultural policy. The emphasis of this article is on the symbolism of the cultural environment of a given regional municipality in the Altai region. It explores the causality of the formation of symbols through the technologies of modern life, the archetypes of cultural traditionalism as well as cultural innovation. The aim of this article is to discover specific features of the formation of the cultural environment in the development of modern Russian regions and their municipalities. The use of modern sociological methodology, in particular, sociocultural and structural-functional approaches, provides for a significant expansion of epistemological research into cultural and environmental phenomena and events.
