Abstract: The article is devoted to the most important theoretical and methodological aspects of evolution of the institution of reception of law in the Russian legal system. The author described continuity of the Russian law and foreign legal institutions and viewed the meaning of reception as a rational way of modernization of a legal system, positive and negative sides of that process.
