Bylevskiy P.G. - "Virtual reality" as a tool for global manipulation of socio-cultural identity pp. 72-83

DOI:
10.7256/2454-0757.2024.2.69843

Abstract: The subject of the article is the philosophical and cultural methodology of digital "virtual reality", comparing the declarations of developers with the practical possibilities and social consequences of using such technologies. The developers presented projects of online digital content services for all five senses using special equipment (glasses, headphones, interactive gloves, joysticks, costumes, printers of smells and tastes, etc.). It was assumed that virtual reality would surpass the reliability of previous multimedia content and interactive computer games, and the persuasiveness and attractiveness of traditional technical means of art and the press. Failure to fulfill these promises has led to significant losses since 2022 for leading companies developing digital virtual reality technologies Meta (recognized by the court as an extremist organization on 03/21/2022, activity is limited in the territory of the Russian Federation), Microsoft HapticLinks, Cave, AlloSphere, Teslasuit, VRealizer. There was a need to assess how and to what extent the methodology used and the predicted capabilities of digital virtual reality were correct. Philosophical and cultural analysis as a research method reveals: the developers of digital virtual reality promised the methodologically impossible, reducing human perception to the "sum" of the external "five senses" out of connection with the "self", inner sensitivity, bodily self-perceptions. A person is only partially amenable to algorithmized digital interaction; a critical barrier to digital virtuality is the socio-cultural identity of society and personality. The novelty of the results of the analysis lies in the conclusion: digital virtual reality in many respects is fundamentally inferior in effectiveness to traditional technical means of sensory and emotional impact and cognition, used both for creative and destructive purposes. In terms of creative potential, digital virtual reality is inferior to the technical means of art, science, education, upbringing, etc., and in terms of destructive capabilities, it is already used in the press and other mass communications technologies for manipulating public and individual consciousness, as well as psychotropic substances that cause addiction. National regulation of the development of digital "virtual reality" is recommended, aimed at protecting and developing the socio-cultural identity of Russian citizens and society, as well as for cognitive and educational purposes. It is recommended to limit the remote use of such developments to trusted domestic Internet services.

Bylevskiy P.G. - Culturological approach to the development of a general civil culture of Internet communications security pp. 157-167

DOI:
10.25136/2409-8698.2023.8.43827

Abstract: The problem solved in this article is to determine the possibilities and advantages of a culturological approach to solving the problem of developing a general civil culture of Internet communications security. The subject of the study is the structural and functional features of this culture, and the object is the evolution of the formation of the corresponding complex of beliefs, knowledge, skills and abilities. The topic of expanding from a highly professional to a general civil culture of Internet communications security is considered. The increase in the share and importance of socio-cultural aspects compared with technical factors is analyzed. Particular attention is paid to the substantive aspects of the general civil culture of Internet communications security: the insufficiency of methods for broadcasting rules and relevant examples to a mass audience, as well as the underestimation of the formation of intuitive caution, the ability to recognize threats in a timely manner and respond correctly to incidents. The novelty lies in the postulation of the high representativeness of the security culture of financial Internet services, due to the combination of the mass nature of civilian users and transactions with funds that are highly attractive to intruders. It was here that mass Internet crime was first formed, threats and methods of attacks and, accordingly, security tools evolved. The conclusion is made: the experience of countering "social engineering" in the field of mass financial services is useful as a basis for the formation and development of a general civil culture of Internet communications security, including socio-cultural threats: fake news, disinformation, destructive and prohibited content, and others.

Bylevskiy P.G. - Culturology of professional culture of information security pp. 39-49

DOI:
10.7256/2454-0625.2023.8.43846

Abstract: The purpose of the study is to study the potential of a culturological approach to the professional culture of information security in modern conditions. The subject of the study is the socio-cultural aspects of professional competencies in the context of the formation and development of the general civil culture of information security. The object of the study is the previous and ongoing evolution of the professional culture of information security in Russia. The materials used are scientific, research and scientific-practical publications on the research topic in the Russian journals of the list of the Higher Attestation Commission and in the international database Scopus (categories Q1 and Q2) for 2021-2023. The evolutionary and structural-functional methods are applied, the subject of the study is considered from the point of view of the cultural paradigm − the dynamic system model. The novelty of the research lies in the application of the conceptual apparatus and methods of cultural studies to study the professional culture of information security. Previously, the formation and development of an information security culture was considered within the framework of technical scientific disciplines, and then law, management, pedagogy, psychology and linguistics. The result of the study is the identification of socio-cultural factors as components inherent in the professional culture of information security at the present stage. These include traditional values, identity, resistance to manipulation of consciousness, as well as psychological and pedagogical competencies of training non-professionals in information security of employees of organizations and citizens, customers and users of services. The conclusion is made: the culturological approach is highly in demand in information security, which is due to its transformation into a general civil culture, which must include more and more significant socio-cultural aspects.

Bylevskiy P.G. - Culturological reconstruction of ChatGPT's socio-cultural threats and information security of Russian citizens pp. 46-56

DOI:
10.7256/2454-0757.2023.8.43909

Abstract: The subject of the study is the socio-cultural threats to the information security of Russian citizens associated with ChatGPT technologies (Chat Generative Pre-trained Transformer, a machine-generated text response generator simulating a dialogue). The object of research − evaluation of the ratio of advantages and threats of generative language models based on "machine learning" in modern (2021-2023) scientific literature (journals HAC K1, K2 and Scopus Q1, Q2). The scientific novelty of the research lies in the culturological approach to the analysis of threats to the security of Russian citizens associated with the use of ChatGPT as one of the technologies of "artificial intelligence". The formulation of the problem of the classical Turing test "to distinguish a person from a machine" is characterized as a scholastic abstraction, instead a more correct and productive approach is proposed: a socio-cultural assessment of the value (based on cultural axiology) of new computer technologies. The starting point of the analysis is the determination of socio-cultural value (or, conversely, damage) as a result of the use of generative language models based on machine learning. Further, the contribution and responsibility of various socio-cultural subjects of its creation and application are revealed − user, creator and developer. The result of the application of the proposed approach is the deconstruction of the discourse of the "philosophy of artificial intelligence" in terms of uncritical translation of developer declarations intended for marketing and attracting financing. Hypertrophied perception, precariously balancing on the edge of utopia and dystopia, is assessed as a risk of incorrect identification and ranking of threats to information security. Assumptions about the hypothetical "superweapon of psychological warfare" mask modern incidents of cross-border leakage of confidential data, the risks of being held accountable for publishing deliberately false information and illegal content as a result of using ChatGPT. National security measures are recommended, including restrictive measures and increasing the general civil culture of information security of users, as well as the orientation of domestic developments of solutions of this type on traditional values, socio-cultural identity and interests of Russian citizens.

Bylevskiy P.G. - Socio-cultural risks of "big user data" of Russian citizens pp. 76-86

DOI:
10.25136/2409-8744.2023.4.43896

Abstract: The subject of the article is the current socio-cultural risks of Russian citizens as users of computer and telecommunication technologies and Internet communications. The object of the study is the consequences of digital transformation, such as the advantages and threats of automating the generation, collection and analysis of "big user data". The relevance of the topic is due to the adoption by the Russian Government of the "Concept of formation and development of the culture of information security of citizens of the Russian Federation" on December 22, 2022. Socio-cultural risks and threats, including traditional values and identity, associated with being in a "digital" environment and user actions are considered. Special attention is paid to the analysis of threats to Russian citizens from the "electronic totalitarianism" of unfriendly countries and global corporate digital platforms, as well as the possibilities of counteraction. The novelty of the study of socio-cultural risks of information security in the application of the profile system-dynamic culturological approach, evolutionary and structural-functional methods. Taking into account the rapid changes in the landscape of socio-cultural digital risks in recent years, the research materials were Russian scientific publications in the journals of the list of HAC (categories K1, K2) and foreign ones in the international database Scopus (quartiles Q1, Q2) 2021−2023, "critical" for the formation of modern digital threats. A special contribution is the use of developments obtained in the course of research of scientific and practical communications in the information security of the financial sector, conducted under the guidance of the author in 2010-2023. The results of the study are conclusions about the need to take into account the balance of advantages and threats of "digitalization", the management of socio-cultural risks of "big user data" in the interests of Russian citizens. The main conclusion is to determine the decisive role in the development and improvement of the general civil culture of information security not only of the professional activities of state bodies and specialized organizations, but also of all citizens.
