Asanova Z. - Lexical-Grammatical Categories of Adjectives in the Modern Crimean Tatar Language pp. 88-94

DOI:
10.7256/2454-0749.2022.1.37297

Abstract: The matter under research is lexical-grammatical categories of adjectives in the modern Crimean Tatar language. Asanova anayzes researches that offer different classification features that can be used to determine lexical-grammatical categories. She discovers that in modern Crimean Tatar qualitative and relative adjectives do not constitute independent grammatical categories. Morphological, syntactic and structural criteria are important for differentiation between relative and qualitative adjectives, however, these criteria only reflect the main semantic features of lexical-grammatical categories. The methodological framework of the research includes researches of V. Vinogradov, E. Wolf, A. Memetov and other scientists. In the course of writing her article the author has applied the method of description. She emphasizes that besides grammatical features, it is important to consider lexical-grammatical features in the course of differentiation between qualitative and relative adjectives. The author discovers that each adjective already has potential meaning of quality which is also a factor of transformation of relative adjectives into qualitative adjectives.

Asanova Z. - Compound Adjectives in the Linguistic Works of the XX – XXI Centuries (on the Material Crimean Tatar Language) pp. 168-173

DOI:
10.25136/2409-8698.2021.12.37031

Abstract: This article is dedicated to the analysis of theoretical knowledge about compound adjectives in the Crimean Tatar language. The reviewed material allows determining the lacunae that serve as the basis for the study of compound adjectives. It is revealed that compound adjectives have not previously become the special subject of research; some information can be found in scientific works of the early XX century. Modern researchers outline the main methods of formation of compound adjectives, such as word composition and lexicaliziation of the phrase (sometimes combined with affixation); as well as determine compound adjectives with compositional and subordinating relations of the components.. The novelty of this work lies in carrying out a comprehensive analysis of the history of compound adjectives in the Crimean Tatar language. The conclusion is made that compound adjectives overall and their orthography in particular did not receive due attention in all grammars, which led to different interpretation of their spelling variations. Practical significance of this topic lies in the fact that the acquired results and materials can be used in the practice of teaching Crimean Tatar and other Turkic languages in secondary and higher schools.

Asanova Z. - Subjective-evaluative adjectives of general assessment of yakhshy ‘good’ / yaramay ‘evil’ pp. 201-207

DOI:
10.7256/2454-0749.2020.12.34535

Abstract: The goal of this research consists in the description of subjective-evaluative adjectives of general assessment of yakhshy ‘good’ / yaramay ‘evil’ on the material of Crimean Tatar language. The relevance of this research is defined by the need existing in Crimean Tatar Language for studying the evaluative function of an adjective. Theoretical framework of this research is comprised of the works of such scholars as O. Jespersen, A. A. Potebnja, V. V. Vinogradov, A. M. Shcherbak, E. M. Volf, N. D. Arutyunov, etc. The research employs the methods of analysis, generalization, and classification. The acquired materials can be used in the practice of teaching Crimean Tatar language. The novelty lies in the fact that this article is first to examine the semantics of adjectives yakhshy ‘good’ / yaramay ‘evil’ with evaluative meaning. It is established that these adjectives can move from one lexical-semantic group to another, due to the fact that semantics of the word initially carries its figurative meaning. The adjectives yakhshy ‘good’ / yaramay ‘evil’ in Crimean Tatar language can be on the periphery of multiple lexical-semantic groups, which can be divided into two main groups: sensory perceived by a human characteristics of the inanimate object, and properties that describe the appearance, age, and socio-communicative traits of a human.

Asanova Z. - Word-Formation Types of Adjectives with -Ly/-Li Affixes pp. 229-234

DOI:
10.7256/2454-0749.2018.4.28450

Abstract: The subject of the research is the word-formation types of adjectives with -ly/-li affixes. The object of the research is the word-formation process in the Crimean Tatar language studies. The form-formation language system is defined a combination of word-formation types. Word-formation type determines derivation potential and peculiar semantics of a derivative word in the word-formation language system. This is the scheme of word formation in which word semantics and its word-formation structure are closely related. Word-formation types of the Crimean Tatar language are still left understudied, consequently, needs to be analyzed. In the course of writing her article Asanova has applied the description method as the main method of linguistic research and the component analysis method. The novelty of the research is caused by the fact that the author has carried out a complex analysis of word-formation types of adjectives with -ly/-li affixes in modern Crimean Tar language. As a result of her research, Asanova has defined a number of word-formation types of adjectives with -ly/-li affixes that are used today in the Crimean Tatr language system.
